What is MTA exploratory?

MTA Exploratory is a lightning fast testing tool by Menditect that connects AI testing assistants directly to a local Mendix runtime using the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

It allows Mendix developers and testers to test microflow logic and edge cases locally in real time  with automatic database rollbacks, and instantly promote those exploratory tests into permanent automated MTA regression test suites using a simple prompt.

The bridge: promote local explorations to permanent MTA suites

Never throw away what you just tested!

The best part of exploratory testing is that your testing effort is never thrown away. Once you verify your microflow logic and all boundary scenarios pass, you can turn your exploratory test into a permanent regression asset with a single prompt:

“Promote this exploratory test into a permanent MTA test suite.”

Generate test data on the fly

No more manual test data entry

Use a prompt to generate test data in your database without manual test data entry or writing microflows to generate data. With the knowledge of the Mendix model, the reasoning capabilities of your AI agent and the execution of the MTA plugin, you can create realistic test data for manual testing your app.

Experience MTA Exploratory in action

  • MTA Exploratory Free Edition: Start testing your Mendix microflows in sub-second time for free. Download the MTA Plugin module, configure your AI assistant, and test locally with zero licensing cost.
  • Bi-weekly live AI workshop: Join a free, 1-hour interactive online session. Together with our testing architects, prompt an AI assistant to generate and execute MTA tests on our live MendiRent app.
  • Full-day MTA trial intake: Ready to test your team’s real-world Mendix application? Schedule a 30-minute intake meeting to set goals and scope for a full-day guided trial on your own application.

Moving past manual browser checks in Studio Pro

Why waiting for redeploys and clicking through forms slows down Mendix development

Mendix allows developers to build data models, complex calculation microflows, and user interfaces in record time. But checking whether a microflow handles all edge cases correctly has traditionally created a frustrating dilemma:

  • Manual browser testing: You start the runtime, open the browser, log in, navigate to the page, and fill out 10 fields just to test one scenario. If you want to check 5 boundary conditions, you do it 5 times.
  • Local database pollution: Manual clicking leaves half-baked test records scattered throughout your local database. Resetting snapshots or writing manual cleanup scripts wastes valuable engineering time.
  • Ephemeral effort: When you finish your browser checks, you have zero automated tests to show for it. Your effort evaporates, and regressions slip through undetected in future sprints.

With MTA Exploratory, you no longer have to choose between quick local checks and repeatable regression suites.

Why teams win with MTA Exploratory

  • For Mendix developers: Verify edge cases in under 850ms without opening the browser or leaving your editor. Zero database clutter thanks to automatic transaction rollbacks.
  • For QA & test automators: Explore boundary variations effortlessly. Bridge manual exploratory findings directly into automated regression suites without writing fragile test code.
  • For product owners & leads: Build permanent regression coverage sprint-by-sprint during development. Eliminate legacy test debt and de-risk major platform upgrades to Mendix 11.
  • All test levels supported: Promote tests across Unit, Component, and Backend Process levels, and extend to Frontend UI journeys with Menditect’s native Playwright integration.
  • Model as ground truth: Works even when documentation or user stories are missing. The assistant inspects the visual Mendix model to understand real data structures and logic.
  • Deterministic & cost-effective: Tests run natively against the compiled Mendix engine. You get predictable, deterministic execution with zero ongoing AI token fees.
