UI testing with MTA

Thursday January 16, 2025
Markus Travaille, Rolf Bolt

With MTA you can test the (backend) logic of your Mendix apps. In some cases you need to test the UI as well. To fully support testing of Mendix apps at all test levels MTA  now supports UI testing.

MTA now supports UI testing

Test all levels of your Mendix app in one tool!

Menditect combines the strengths of two proven technologies Playwright and MTA. This allows for testing of all test levels of your Mendix apps in one tool. This provides the following benefits:

  • MTA can combine backend and UI tests in one script (e.g. data preparation, combined backend and UI asserts)
  • UI testing with MTA is easy to use for testers with a UI testautomation background
  • MTA uses Mendix model information to create robust locators for Mendix apps
  • MTA measures code coverage of UI tests

MTA demo video:

UI testing with MTA

In this movie you see how you can add Playwright locators and actions in an MTA test case and that you can run a (headful) test on your Mendix app to check UI specific asserts.

UI testing roadmap

Private bèta

As of january 2025, we start a period of private bèta testing with selected customers. The bèta testing focusses on the User Experience for Mendix developers and testers, since the underlying frameworks of Playwright and MTA are already tried and tested.

General Available (GA)

Once we have finished the private beta phase, we will make UI testing General Available (GA) for all MTA customers.

Our innovations to make testing of Mendix apps easier and faster will not stop there and we have plenty of cool new features for UI testing on the roadmap. Check out our website and our newsletters for more announcements!
